World Class School of Excellence For Generating, Advancing And Applying Knowledge In Energy.
The Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering of the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) started in the 2013/2014 academic year. It admitted its first batch of seventy-three (73) students that same Academic Year in September, 2013. During the academic year, the department developed a four-year Bachelor of Science (BSc.) programme in Agricultural Engineering which was approved and subsequently began in the 2014/2015 Academic Year. Detailed descriptions of the programmes are as follows:
The Mechanical Engineering Programme was introduced in the 2013/2014 Academic Year. The programme has been designed to produce the next generation of Mechanical Engineers with the necessary knowledge and skills to provide cutting-edge solutions to everyday issues confronting society. In addition, students are being equipped with the necessary engineering tools and entrepreneurial skills that will make them highly qualified for industries in Ghana and in particular the world at large.
The programme has four main sections or areas of specializations which are:
Courses administered in these four sections were designed to train and equip the students with multidisciplinary and pragmatic approach of developing engineering solutions to meet the challenges of everyday life. Students enrolled in the Mechanical Engineering program from the first year to the third year will have the opportunity to study basic and core courses in all four main sections. However, in the final year, students will be allowed to select only one section for specialization that will define the student’s unique area of interest.
The overall aim of the Mechanical Engineering Programme is to provide the necessary broad-based education and training in mechanical engineering sciences and their applications that will enable graduates to tap into existing and emerging technologies to meet the challenges of the engineering profession in a rapidly changing environment such as exists in a developing country like Ghana.
The mechanical engineering program seeks to:
The Agricultural Engineering programme was introduced in the 2014/2015 Academic Year. The BSc. Agricultural Engineering is a four-year (4) programme that uniquely combines engineering technology and biological sciences in a multidisciplinary way with a wide range of career opportunities. It applies scientific principles for the optimal conversion of natural resources into agricultural land management, machinery, structures, processes, and systems for the benefit of society. Agricultural Engineers are therefore required to develop, adapt and apply technology to address challenges within the agro-valued chain. The Agricultural Engineer facilitates food production, processing, storage and distribution, and consumption. The following are the unique areas of the programme:
